Life Shimodera - Osaka

A good supermarket, but don't expect vegan and vegetarian options everywhere. You have to know were to look and know some Japanese.

I’ve been shopping at this supermarket since I moved to Japan about 4 years ago. I always thought they had a good selection of plant-based milk and soy meat. A few months ago, I learned that they accept customer requests. Since then, they’ve started selling vegan ice cream, mayonnaise, and butter all at my request. They also have soy yogurt and tempeh available at times. Request slips are available at the entrance. Hands down, my favorite “normal” supermarket in Osaka.

This restaurant offers soy milk and a selection of vegan items like Alpro. I tried a vegan protein milk drink which I enjoyed. The store is quite large and has many non-vegan options, so it may be difficult to find the vegan selection, especially if you cannot read Japanese.
