Maid-rite - Oskaloosa

Ps this is not the original lose meat hamburger, like some are saying. The canteen in Ottumwa Iowa is the original and 1000 times better it just didn't become a chain restaurant. Dry over cooked chicken tenders, that we're not even tenders... They gave us small nuggets, didn't put mayo on my grilled chicken and my sandwich was smashed like someone stepped on it. Small VERY SMALL PORTION SIZE. Spent 39 dollars and I didn't even want to eat it.... I usually leave good reviews, but this was so bad I recommend to not waste your money here. It was discussing I wouldn't even pay $1 for the gross chicken sandwich I reserved. I'm actually mad I paid $40 dollars for this and wanted a refund.

Can't beat a Maid-Rite... Takes me back to a time that was much more simple.

Cute 50 's diner vibe, new to town, figured we would try it out because it had an actual grilled chicken sandwich, and my wife wanted one (instead of all the breaded/fried chicken that the fast food places offer now .Our advice? Don 't bother. Piece of chicken breast, soggy and wet, on a bun with some lettuce, tomato and mayo (wife 's choice . Not sure where the grilled part of grilled chicken breast came in, perhaps somewhere in the kitchen, it had briefly been located next to a grill. But, it wasn 't grilled... heated up a little, perhaps, but that 's the best that could be said.No flavor to it... just a damp/soggy piece of chicken that kind of oozed juices as you bit into it, with the faintest of lines (caramel food coloring to simulate grill marks? on it.It 's too bad. We are new to town, and looking for places we 'd like to make favorites, but unfortunately, Maid-Rite won 't be one after this experience. We 'll keep looking for somewhere with a good chicken sandwich.

Driving home from Des Moines and needed a quick meal. Didn't want fast food, sandwich, drive through ? nothing seemed right. Stopped at maid-rite and BINGO... Perfect. Had a chili dog with cheese and onions, and house fries (real potatoes cut up). Great staff, great food! Thanks Maid-Rite ?

Drive up is real slow. Watching thru the drive up window, the making process needs work, one could learn from other faster food places.Maid Rites are a mid western icon. Gotta do maid rite while in Iowa and especially the hometown of Oskaloosa.
