I'm not fond of the term gastro pub and I like my pubs to look like pubs but this place seems to be getting a lot of things right. For a start, they brew their own beer, not only that but the place is very comfortable and they don't mind you dropping in for drinks. Best of all, in my book anyway, no kids allowed after 8pm. Yes! The service was friendly and attentive without being in your face. The menu is a bit more adventurous than your regular pub menu of pies, burgers and fish and chips. We had 2 starters and 2 mains and everything tasted fresh and created with care. We also had some crackling as an appetiser. The bill came to around £45 excluding drinks and considering the quality and portion size I didn't think that was too bad at all. So there is an alternative to Greene King even in the heart of Bury St Edmunds.
Delicious food, seafood pasta, burger, tomato focaccia, chips and more. It was a stampede once it opened but you could understand why when you tasted the food. Delicious. Gorgeous bartender too!
Of course, they have the monopoly as the only restaurant on the lido but it is expensive for the area and we were having evening meals with wine for about the same price as lunch here. However, try the Polpo in a roll. This was tasty and they certainly don't skimp on the amount of polpo. I would still go back as for me it is a better option than taking your own picnic to be left out in 35 degrees.
