This restaurant is steeped in history, offering a tangible connection to the past. It's located near a site significant to the Civil War, particularly involving Oliver Cromwell and Charles I. The establishment features a Catholic church, which adds to its cultural richness. I absolutely love stepping inside; the atmosphere is infused with British culture, and the walls are filled with stories from days gone by.
The current structure primarily dates from its 19th-century reconstruction, although a significant portion of the tower's structure can be traced back to the 13th century. The interior of the church is striking, nearly as wide as it is long, adorned with intricate wood and stone carvings, as well as beautiful stained glass. The church is named after St. Oswald, who was the King of Northumbria in the 7th century. He was killed in the Battle of Oswestry by the pagan King Penda of Mercia, which took place on a battlefield just five hundred meters from the church. The name "Oswestry" is derived from "Oswald's tree," as Oswald's body was reportedly displayed on a tree after the battle.
This charming oasis in the heart of Oswestry features beautiful glasswork and a stunning staircase. It's the perfect place to take a moment to relax and unwind.
Great church community as far as I have seen
