Best carribean in Ottawa. It takes time to create perfection so the lil time you may have to wait is nothing compared to the quality of the food. I crave this place! And the service IS VERY respectful as long as YOU are too!BIG UP FISHYS
Odd little place, great goat roti. We had a hell of a time locating this place for lunch, as it 's tucked into the far corner of a strip mall just off Montreal Rd. just east of St-Laurent. Even when we found it, the sign out front said 'Tropical Garden ' so we had to check that we had the right place. When we went in, the service was welcoming, warm and friendly even though the restaurant itself was freezing cold inside.<br/ <br/ I ordered a goat roti. My wife had fried chicken and 'mannish water ', a rich meat-based broth full of vegetables. My 8-y-old gourmand had the kingfish steak. My family liked their meals well enough, but I think the goat roti was the thing to get there. It 's absolutely delicious, and comes with peas and rice, (unexciting) veggies, and fried plantain. The house hot sauce was also really good... and potent. <br/ <br/ This place is obviously set up for takeout, not dining in. It has a few tables, which were empty except for us — no surprise considering the February wind blew through the place every time someone opened the door. Even though we ate in, our food was served in aluminum and styrofoam takeout plates with plastic utensils. I think most of the food was pre-prepared and reheated on order.<br/ <br/ Like I said, the goat roti was great. But the bill was pretty hefty: More than $50 for a simple lunch for three people, with soft drinks. I 'll be back, but next time I 'll probably order more strategically and get it to go.
For a taste of the Islands, it just can't be beaten That delightful goat roti was all-too-soon eaten
