Kungfu Bistro - Ottawa

We ordered food for Mother's Day and had to wait a while for our food. We discovered that there were new owners who were not quite prepared for the Mother's Day rush. The food was okay, but some things were noticeably different, like the egg rolls and chicken dish. The staff seemed overwhelmed and not as friendly as we're used to. We'll give the new owners another chance to improve. It would have been helpful to know in advance that our pre-ordered meal would be delayed.

I recommend getting the dumplings, pad thai, general tao, and chicken harmony! I've been coming here since the opening and I adore the food.

Quite surprised to see the number of excellent reviews of this restaurant. I've been here several times (out of convenience more than anything else given that it's close to home), and never been particularly impressed, except perhaps by the price tag. The food isn't bad, but pretty average across the board (I've tried a range of their dishes). Most recently, I stopped in for some steamed rice and spring rolls to supplement a meal that we were throwing together, and regretted it. The service was quite friendly, though it took a while to finally walk out with what was a very simple order. The rice ended up being quite dry (although the portions were quite generous). The spring rolls, to be honest, tasted like deep fried playdough. Almost all rice-paper wrap - very little filling, and very little taste. And the price I was charged was well above the price in the menu I was given (a difference of 2 dollars for an order of 6 spring rolls). When I asked, the staff member explained that they had recently raised the prices and had not updated the menu. My advice to them would be to update their menus so that customers can avoid the surprise of a higher bill than they were expecting. To add insult to injury, I paid for 12 but when I got home discovered that I was only given 11. Overall, I'd say that this restaurant offers a very run-of-the-mill experience for a premium price.

Have never been disappointed - we do mostly delivery from here at least once a month since they opened. Fast and great service. A++
