The sauce came separately in a small container. It was very liquid and super greasy with half inch... floating fat on the surface. It also had several small strands of what looked like beef in it. We realized that they have used the left over the sauce (I am generous when I call it a sauce) of their honey garlic ribs for their honey garlic chicken!!! No wonder it was so fat as the ribs had cooked in it. And it was completely tasteless. My last order from Mandarin Ogilvie. I would have rated it 0 if it were an option.
We're going here all the time. Dim Sum is a favorite. Fair prices and this taste when I was a child. Salty and sweet, a bit greasy, but overall well prepared by always gracious hosts. Negative reviews reflect more about the reviewers then this family business. It's a pleasure, but if you thought it was the Mandarin Chainbuffet style restaurants going back to Kanata with your SUV, which still has barely enough space for your legitimate egos. I have seen that rice is free everywhere in Ottawa, that is a flat lie, hasn't been so for 20 years. I've eaten Chinese food in this city for 40 years, this place is one of the best.
In this restaurant many times lived in Ottawa in my 20 years, but things seem to have changed to the food and service in this restaurant. I brought my wife Tim Sum to lunch this Sunday and the restaurant was busy. Even then... service was extremely bad, wait 15mins to get the attention of each staff to take our order of time. Then serve another 15 minutes for the food. The quality of the amount of time has changed considerably over the last 3 years. Now the shrimps, shrimp rice roll, lobster dumpling and even the sticky rice seem to be delivered commercially (not made in the restaurant) and of poor quality. The wu-kok (yam) fried emptying is pure yam without filling. Our bill for two for 8-tale sum services came to about $70 including taxes. The shock I have is when it comes to paying the bill, the payment machine will force you to pay with tips of min 15%, 20% or 25% and there is no way to pay custom tips or reject it. You basically have to pay a min 15% tip on your purchase. To the question why?, the owner state that they are forced to calculate tips of 15% from their bank. It's motorway robbery.
They sat in a small dining area of the restaurant together with all other customers crowded and loud. Mo had her pig with 4 little pancakes. had to order more to complete the court $4.25 extra). Automatic 15% tip before tax). Tip fee will be... The front of the menu that you usually do not read because the menu points are inside. Very smart! My friend and I will never return. Very little consideration for customers. Warm.
Extremely disappointed in takeout. General Tao chicken was overcooked and very stringy. We had to spit it out. The garlic ribs had very little actual ribs; mostly meat with an overabundance of fat. The crispy fried noodles weren’t crispy. Even the pieces of chicken in...the chicken fried rice were hard as rocks. Our last meal at Mandarin.
