Feedback gevenI recently revisited this place after 10 years (I moved out of the area).
I stumbled upon this place when driving through Stockton, so I wasn't sure what to expect.
Here is the main reason I love Garlic Brothers: the ambiance.
It has an obscure entrance, but the food here is as authentic as it can get. We had the spicy fish pot and it was sumptuous. Mouth numbing spicy and it was very well balanced. The fish tasted fresh and so did the accompaniments. The interiors needs a lot of work as it looks completely run down. Service is functional and no more. On the whole, if you want authentic spicy fish, Chinese style, look no further. Do not expect much in terms of interiors, ambience or service and you will not be disappointed.
We ordered 3 dishes: cucumbers in vinegar, braised beef noodles, and the spicy diced chicken with peanuts. The noodles soup was meaty and delicate (not very spicy), it came with a really generous portion of tender meat, a bit of cabbage and udon noodles. The chicken was really tasty, spicy at the point we love (the chilies in the dish are not sliced and you can take them with you), with lots of peanuts and italian green peppers. The cucumbers were crunchy, refreshing and incredibly flavorful, thank to their spicy vinegar sauce. The place looked clean and the server was very friendly. The service was fast, the portions of dishes generous, and the price very affordable for what we got. We can't wait to go back and try new dishes.
