The Clarendon/the Hyde - Ottawa

A go to spot and food doesn't disappoint. Overpriced for brunch in my opinion. $18 for an English muffin is steep. The staff and ambience are great though. I'll return but maybe not for brunch.

Food was excellent; I had the niçoise salad and the tuna was so fresh, done to perfection (and I am very picky about fish! . Very nice servers. Music was too loud in bar area, but just right (quiet in the back room.

Nice patio for an evening drink with refreshing summer cocktails in a heritage courtyard. Friendly service.

The food was delicious, but we encountered some issues. We received steak but no steak knives, which made it difficult for my friend to cut part of hers, even with a knife. The starter we ordered was clearly insufficient for four people, so some guidance on portion sizes would have been appreciated. Another friend ordered the cod and mentioned that the breading didn't seem properly cooked. We were each served just one drink, and at least three of us would have liked refills, but we were never offered any. I tried several times to get the attention of a server but without success. We’re hoping this was just an off night.

The cocktails were fantastic! The food was decent. I ordered the trout, which was cooked to perfection, but the vegetables underneath were overcooked and the wild rice barely had any flavor. My friend had the cod and chips and really enjoyed them.
