This is a really creative place, and has multiple identities wrapped into one cozy restaurant. The bar seating, window seating, standard seating, and seating near the entrance all feel like you are at a subtly different restaurant. In a good way, there is a very hipster appeal to this place, like you are eating in Ithaca in the 2000s-2010s. Food is dang good, and creative. For people looking for standard meals, such as a burger, it is wonderful. For more unusual meals, they have a tuna poke bowl that uses blue jasmine rice and consists of a marbling of wonderful flavors. Even simple things, like their guacamole and queso dips are excellent. Lastly, service is always impeccable. Never overbearing, but always balanced and tentative.
What a find! We’re not from here and made MJ’s a stop on our way from Penn Yan to Calicoon. So glad we did!
We dined at MJ’s Bar and Restaurant on a Sunday afternoon around 1:50 pm. Since the lunch menu begins after 2:30 pm, we opted for the brunch menu, which did not let us down! The cocktails were delightful, and we were thoroughly impressed with the service, atmosphere, and food. The restaurant is beautifully situated alongside the Susquehanna River, enhancing the charm of our dining experience. I highly recommend it for a relaxing meal with fantastic views!
The menu may be limited, but the food is delicious, all while enjoying a waterside location in Owego. Definitely worth a visit!
