In Owen Sound for the night on our way to Manitoulin, we chance upon Shorty's while walking through a back alley of the downtown. When I say chanced, I mean it.There seemed little option for dinner downtown and we were getting a bit concerned when we looked over at what we thought was a closed retailer. Just then, a fellow came out with a large bag of food so we headed in.The place was packed but, because it was early for dinner, we thought we would just get a drink at the bar. On a whim, we booked a table for later and thank goodness! The place just kept filling up. While waiting at the bar, we had a great time rolling our eyes with the bar keeps at the two drunk jocks who left with a chorus of "Later ladies". At our table, we were quickly attended and, after a brief look at the extensive menu, we ordered the special - prime rib with yorkshire pudding - and a plate of ribs and wings. The special came with a salad and another was ordered to accompany the rib/wing plate.Both meals were delicious, sizeable and well cooked; the prim rib rare and tender as ordered; the ribs falling off the bone and the wings large and savoury. I'm afraid, after that, we were too full to sample the desert.The service was efficient and friendly, a fellow we think might be Shorty roamed the floor, assisting here and there and schmoozing at the door and, all in all, a great dinner.Don't let the low key outer vibe fool you, take a step through the door.

After a long day of hiking we drove to Owen sound with a dozen hungry people. I almost tripped on the way in, but I caught myself. We sat near the bar which was very noisy, but it's a bar. The selection of beer was great and the waitress was very friendly. My mom order the French onion soup, but it was lacking cheese so it was full of broth. My dad had the steak and it was delicious. My sister had the bogey burger but it didn't have cheese on it, even after she asked for it. I had the quesadillas and they were delicious. Over all the food was pretty good, but I've had better.
