The Bear Inn - Oxford

The pub had a welcoming atmosphere with friendly staff and customers. However, we were disappointed to be charged £12.60 for a glass of wine that was not good quality. It felt like a rip off considering we could have bought a better bottle for the same price. I would suggest avoiding the wine at this establishment.

I recently dined at this pub for Sunday lunch, and was disappointed that the descriptions on the menu did not match what was actually served. We had to ask for condiments, which were served in tiny portions. While there was no music or TV, the noise and chatter from the kitchen staff was quite distracting and unprofessional. As we were looking at the dessert menu and considering ordering more drinks, we were abruptly informed that our table was reserved and that we needed to leave immediately because other guests had arrived. There was no prior notice of this reservation on our table, so we would not have chosen to sit there if we had known. Although the food was good, the customer service was lacking and we decided to take our business elsewhere in Oxford. This experience cost the establishment £20-30 in potential revenue and led to this honest but poor review. Seek out another dining option in the area.

Billed as the oldest pub in Oxford, but should really be called the worst value in England. I was shocked to be charged 12 pounds for a small glass of wine! When I asked about the price, the staff didn't seem to care at all.

Popped in for quick pint on a Friday evening was a bit busy so didn't get a good look around but was a nice traditional pub low ceilings uneven floors etc. Did take a while to get served but think that was more to do with some foreign visitors not understanding how a British Bar works queuing etc but staff were polite and friendly and there was a good selection of beers. Would definitely call again just maybe at a quieter time.

After a long absence following previous misgivings, I decided to meet friends for lunch and book a table. I was confronted by a booking charge of £5 per head and my confirmation email said will be refunded against bill on the day . On the day, I ordered the first round of drinks with meal and with no sign of reservation refund my query was met with we don 't do that any more, will be processed in a couple of days time !!!! The meal itself was expensive, barely matched the menu description and was frankly disappointing. On top of this, the adjoining party left and their crockery and glasses and uneaten food remained on the tables for nearly one hour! So, basically BEWARE I suggest you spend your hard earned cash with an establishment that cares about it 's customers.
