I wish I had read the reviews before we went because they were all accurate: the service was extraordinarily rude—I've never encountered anything like it in a restaurant before. We waited at least 20 minutes for our waiter to even approach our table, and when he finally did, he didn't greet us or apologize for the delay (it wasn't busy, by the way). They charged $1 for bottled water, the chips tasted stale, and I thought the salsa was unpleasant. My friend ordered a margarita that he found undrinkable, despite it costing $15. We all agreed to cut our losses and asked him to cancel our food order. When my husband spoke to someone who seemed to be the manager, she literally walked away while he was trying to pay for our drinks. This was without a doubt the worst dining experience we've ever had. If they aren’t interested in providing good service, they should sell to someone who does, because the patio view and location are fantastic.
They charge for water and are quite insistent about regular drinks with refills. They only offer bottled Kirkland water, and there are no refills available. The food was similar to what you’d find in stores in the Denver area and was quite decent, and the view from the porch of the San Juan is nice. The margaritas were also pretty good. However, the service did not match the prices we paid. I had to chase down the waiter just to settle the bill. It seems like they are overly focused on making money from drinks, which may be negatively impacting their business. They might want to reconsider their approach, as the COVID pandemic is now behind us. There are better Mexican restaurants in Pagosa. A note for those with dietary restrictions: I’m gluten-free, and the carne asada was a good choice—just pair it with a salad instead of beans and rice.
We are extremely pleased with our meals! I had the carne asada and more, while my husband ordered the grande, which came with a burrito and two tostadas. We also enjoyed two tequila sunrises and two classic margaritas! I'm so full and grateful to have found such delicious food after moving from Texas.
Not the fastest service but our server was very good and friendly. Eating on the patio to watch the river is so nice!
Nice location with great view of the hot springs from the patio. Service was good, food mediocre. You have to pay for water, which is a turn off.
