Walked in for dinner for one. Restaurant was only about 25% occupied. Tables were set up for diners, including the full counter that was empty. I was told it would be a 30-45min wait due to prior reservations. Sure, no problem. 30 minutes later, no reservations came in and no one was sat. Also, no tables left. I was then seated. During my entire time dining the restaurant was never more than 25% occupied. Perhaps understaffed which I understand, but don’t lie about it. I also saw employees standing around, so who knows. The cocktail I ordered was delicious! I started with a beet salad that was good. I love getting artisan food in a classic looking restaurant. For the entree I opted for the chicken sandwich. Please don’t get it. Small chicken breast, fried until all the moisture was gone, and served on a generic hamburger bun. The fries were hot, but the portion was small. This same dish could of been served at a bowling alley or at a bar. I expected more from Kings Hideaway. I ordered dessert to go. The key lime pie was forgettable.
Our server was incredibly friendly and did a fantastic job, though we were one of only two tables seated at the time. I would have appreciated a refill on my soda without having to ask for it, but that's a small issue. I also admired the bar area, which featured a unique and eye-catching interior design that I've never encountered before. While I didn't have the opportunity to stay in one of their rooms or use the pool, I plan to make a point of it on my next trip to Palm Springs. The menu was somewhat limited, with only about 12 items available. My friend ordered an orange wine that was quite rare and intriguing. If you love hamburgers, you must try theirs. It was rich, flavorful, and possibly a bit too indulgent, but that’s just a thought, not a complaint. In fact, it was one of the best burgers I’ve ever had, perfectly cooked to medium-rare, just the way I like it. This spot is a must-visit for anyone in Palm Springs!
King's Highway at The Ace Hotel captures the classic Route 66 diner ambiance perfectly. They serve breakfast and lunch until 2:00 PM before transitioning to dinner. I stopped by for a late breakfast and opted for the breakfast burrito. It had a bit of that hole-in-the-wall charm, reminiscent of SoCal spots, but overall, the burrito was incredibly delicious! A great choice for comfort food.
I had a lovely dinner outdoors on the pet-friendly shaded terrace, which was a perfect way to unwind on a weekday evening. The views of the pool area, hotel rooms, lounge, and bar were stunning, all nestled under the large palm trees. As night fell, the sky transformed into a breathtaking display of stars.
