One of the best pies we’ve ever had, good value and huge portions. Friendly staff. Would recommend!
The Dovenby Ship has redeemed itself in my eyes… We haven’t visited for a few years as last time we arrived bang on our table booking time and was told we were double booked and had to wait for an hour at the bar for another table, this put us off coming back but we thought we’d give it a go being a Tuesday night and hoping it would be quieter. The place was almost empty when we arrived, with only a few other tables being occupied. Our drinks came really quickly and the server was very friendly. The menus were all a little dirty and could do with a wipe down… that said, the menu is full of fantastic “pub grub” with a few “fancier” options too, something for everyone! I opted for the 16oz rump steak without any sauce, the steak was absolutely cooked to perfection, it was succulent and tender and I couldn’t have asked for any more! The coleslaw was a little warm so this would’ve been nice either in a side dish or on top of the salad garnish, the mushrooms were also overcooked (or had been sat for a while) as they were very much stale unfortunately. I then went for the banoffee pie for pudding and wow, absolutely delicious it was a toss up between that and the white chocolate cheesecake for me! All in all, a very nice family meal out and I’d definitely return again I’m glad we gave it a second chance!
Friendly staff, good range of food and drink. Ample parking It's time for a quick update to my review...... Booked a table for a Saturday evening for a meal with friends. Was very busy! Had fillet steak, I must say this was one of the best steaks I've had in a long time. Cooked to perfection (med/rare). I must say that the food represents great value for money. There is a wide choice on the new menu. My advice is to get there early as it can get VERY busy. Still Very highly recommend for a good feed!
Struggling to find anything on a Tuesday we came across this pub serving food. It wasn't very busy with ample parking. Looked at the menu on the Facebook page and the prices looked ok, transpires the actual menu is a little more expensive, so keep that in mind if your looking at Facebook. The special was nice, huge portions, the Cumberland sausage was nice, but I have had nicer but nothing wrong with it. Service was lovely, glass of wine was very expensive at nearly £7 for a small glass, would go again if in that area.
