When we arrived in Parral for the first time and asked what could be done at night, everyone unanimously responded that we had to go to El Pasillo, for a drink or to dance. When we asked for advice on where to eat at noon, almost everyone recommended us to go to El Pasillo, which has a great menu. At first, it seemed strange to us. A disco usually does not have good home cooking as they offered, and a restaurant usually does not have good drinks or a disco/pub atmosphere. So we went to try both experiences, and to our surprise, we found it to be true. El Pasillo is both. It is a disco with a pub atmosphere or a pub with disco vibes, where they also serve amazing platters and delicious snacks. At noon, it reinforces its gastronomic vocation and becomes a good restaurant with homestyle food that feeds workers, employees, merchants, neighbors, and tourists in a relaxed and friendly environment. AT NIGHT: Parral is an extremely quiet town. In its streets, even on its warmest nights, you do not usually see many pedestrians, except in the main square. But in the vicinity of Anibal Pinto and Ignacio Carrera Pinto there is always a lack of parking space. Dozens of locals and visitors venture into the depths of the long hallway behind a simple door with a sign that barely invites you to enter. It is the hallway of El Pasillo, where shortly after entering, one understands that it does not need much pomp in its entrance sign. Inside, the light is dim, and the music volume is just right to dance but also converse. The DJ plays the hits of the moment and surprises with some less expected ones, while a friendly host serves as a host and lights up the night among the tables and armchairs. Behind the bar, there is a good group of bartenders and waiters, men and women, who quickly but with a smile, prepare and serve the orders of customers and friends. In the kitchen, expert hands of lady cooks prepare platters, fried foods, empanadas, seafood, bravas potatoes... a delicious and irresistible combination. The first time you go to El Pasillo is for a drink and order something to accompany it. The second time you go to eat and order a drink to accompany it. They do not disappoint in either. As the meal comes to an end, some dare to dance, and others follow, and others, and the rest, and the central dance floor fills up. The night flies by, amid colorful lights and the rhythm of a well-selected music. AT NOON: During the day, it is a different story. But it is the same. It turns out that the true host of El Pasillo, its creator and owner, Juan Pablo Morales Morales, is a guy who thinks about everyone. He thought about the fun of young (and not so young) people in Parral, but also made sure that his employees had work at noon, that his kitchen did not close, and that the locals had good food at a very reasonable price. We met Juan Pablo on the first day when we went to the pub at night, and immediately we could see that sensitive owner quality that characterizes him. He took care of our drinks with the same dedication with which he attended the bar and spoke to his kitchen staff. And that human quality is felt and seen in every detail of El Pasillo. Because yes, it is true that it is a business, but sometimes good people make businesses, and we all win. In the dining room (where people dance at night), there are tables elegantly decorated, with tablecloths and all, and on each table, there is delicious homemade food that barely costs between 3 and 4 thousand Chilean pesos, including a generous plate of food (varies between meat, chicken, vegetables, broths, etc.) and also homemade desserts. Juan Pablo tells us that besides giving food, he likes people to eat healthy, like at home. We ate deliciously. We leave thinking that it is true. Both during the day and at night, when you go to El Pasillo, you feel at home. Because more or less lights, what matters in this place is the warmth and relaxation that one feels. And then you return, and return, and return.
