We stopped by Sept. 2nd to say goodbye and thanked the owner, PA for many, many great nights of bowling, food and grog with friends old and new. It was the last bar in Paterson, NJ with 8 lanes (4 upper level and 4 lower level). The end of an era.
We obviously came here because we saw it on restaurant impossible! We have seen so many episodes and we are trying to hit up local ones. They were on TV about 4 years ago, and the place feels clean divey. I'm not sure if that makes sense... the display in the center is nice and clean and it looks well maintained! The bar looks a little worse for the wear. The drink mat well looks like it's about to fall apart. The outside of the bar looks much nicer. Stools we very nice and clean. It looks like if focuses too much on the lottery. My wife and I came here last night to try this place out the! We got there at 8, and it seems that we missed the live entertainment. I'm a little surprised that the music started at 4! Seems a little early for a Saturday night. Our waitress was a little slow with service... wife got a disarono oj and I got disarono pineapple. Drinks were made very well and great price! $6! No complaints there. We ordered wings off the very limited menu. Side note, they need new menus.... Ours was in such a sad state. The wings took a little longer than expected. When they came out, it looked like our waitress was about to give them to someone else, but she brought them to us. The wings were delicious! I'd definitely recommend them! I ordered a second drink and it took her a few minutes. I then wanted another, but after 10 minutes of waiting on it, we asked for the check. She tried to offer it to me again, but we wanted to head out. My wife had to use the ladies room, and she said that it was very clean! It could use an update though! I wanted to go bowling, but wife just wanted to relax. All in all, a nice place. It could use a little more work. It definitely needs another update again. If you are in the area, it's a great place to visit! Wife and I would definitely come back again!
I got to see this place before and after its renovation and boy howdy did that TV show do it a MAJOR disservice. From old style pub to vom-worthy blank book 'decorations ' and wallpaper that 's meant to look like velvet?????? YET not all is lost because this place is still pretty fantastic. They kept the old bowling-themed stained glass. And they kept the beautiful old style round bar in the middle, and in the back there 's a beautiful split-level lanes vintage bowling! I love these Jersey dive bars with these amazing surprise sports, what up Jersey! Why would anybody go to Dave and Busters when this stuff still exists!? Nevermind the prices here are great and the food is too. Another good stop on the gem tour of Clifton.
By far the worst place to eat and drink. Upon walking in it reeked of cigarette smoke and moth balls. I wanted to leave but my Co worker insisted the were cheap. Really a hole in the wall. The bartender Tina was rude, aggressive, and clearly in need of a cigarette. No thanks!
Apparently, this bar was just renovated by the show, Restaurant Impossible. I have no idea what this place was like before, but it's pretty cool right now. I've driven by this place dozens of times to get to other spots in the area and I always wondered how they fit a bowling alley into such a small looking space. I finally checked this place out last night because I wanted a drink before I hit the hookah bar. According to signs, this place opened during the Great Depression, in 1929. Surprisingly, it has its own private parking lot. The main bar is pretty big, taking up the center of the room, with a few high tables near the walls. There's also a pool table on one side, along with some arcade machine and a cigarette vending machine. Beer is at dive bar prices, $3 for the domestics with some specials going on depending on the day. I happened to come in on the day they had 40 cent wings, so I grabbed an order with sauce on the side. The wings are good even without the sauce because they're seasoned well. The bowling alley is in the back, 8 lanes total, 4 lanes on top level, 4 on the bottom. The lanes look really old school, like the bowling alley from MIB 3. Each lane has an iPad, i'm guessing to keep score with. I like this place. I'll be back
