Les Amants du Marché - Pau

Any vegetarian only restaurant that survives in South West France is a testament to food it serves. Located opposite the antiques market close to the centre of Pau, there is paid parking close by but on Friday and Saturday when the market is open parking may be more of a challenge, however, municipality parking is only 15 mins slow walk to the restaurant. This is a small cozy venue, wood and art decoration with some outside seating but not the best of views outside. The ambience inside was lovely with great background music (Nina Simone style) not too loud and quite busy for a French National holiday. Because it was a bank holiday the menu was limited, understandably. However, in my case that was a bonus as a certified meat lover I probably wouldn’t have known what to choose anyway! The set menu comprised a main of small dishes not tapas style but a tasting plate of salad, soup, fritter and a ragout of chickpeas and other veg. A bottle of local Jurancon dry white wine topped the meal off. Desert was a slice of fruit tart and coffee a la France. We will have to revisit this venue to experience the whole menu and sincerely hope to upgrade the rating to 5 star as the service (English speaking too) was great but without choice we were restricted. Worth a visit but make a reservation as I’m sure it would fill up quickly on normal working days.

This vegan restaurant felt like home. The meals are prepared with so much love and taste excellent. Take away is no problem. They do accept cash or card! The ambiente is like home at grandma's. The details are so lovely. It smells like home kitchen, wood and food...totally loveable! Service was warm hearted and timed! Totally recommend this place!

Only vegan restaurant in Pau, the reception is friendly, the fast service. The dish was very good, well seasoned and comforting (square spaghetti). The dessert (brownie) was less to my taste, I didn't like the association with the package of fruits that dried the brownie that wasn't chocolate enough.

By curiosity, we went to lunch in this vegan restaurant and we were pleasantly surprised. Different tastes based on very good vegetables.Not quite copied to my taste, but I recommend and I will come back.

The plate composed of the noon is excellent. impeccable seasoning. The boss is adorable. Thank you very much.
