The restaurant features a log cabin style with spacious interiors, large windows, and vaulted ceilings, creating a warm atmosphere that invites either relaxation or romance. Our initial excitement was quickly dampened when we were greeted by two enthusiastic young servers. However, things took a turn when one of them accidentally bumped into my wife, spilling food all over her. After a few awkward apologies and nervous laughter, we sat down to order. Unfortunately, Fargo’s Steakhouse did not live up to its promises. Despite their appealing appearance and nice website, I left feeling disappointed and not inclined to return. When I inquired about the Jumbo Scallops, the server mentioned they were cooked in a convection oven. A convection oven? Really? I may not be a chef, but I know scallops should be seared in a hot pan for the best flavor and texture. So, we decided to skip the scallops entirely. The next morning, a local informed us that they had tried them once and likened them to the consistency of a bouncy rubber ball. I opted for the ribs, while my wife chose the stuffed chicken. When our meals arrived, it quickly became apparent that I would need a chainsaw to cut through my ribs and a professional-grade stone wall to gnaw at the “meat” on those convection-cooked bones. As for my wife's chicken, it was dry and clearly suffered the same fate, having come from the convection oven. The stuffed mushrooms we ordered as an appetizer were equally disappointing—slimy and drenched in far too much cheese. Someone really needs to gift these folks some decent cookware. In the end, we left feeling let down and about $75 poorer, having only enjoyed iced tea with our meal—no alcohol to dull the disappointment, even though I wished it were the case.
There for a Mother's Day LUNCH and $61 later very disappointed. The only reason is that it is not a star that my scallops were cooked beautifully, which is hard to do. The Crab cakes were deliciously tasty like tuna and maize bread. The salad was just a half wild salad on a plate and the butter for the roll was frozen. My vegetables were barely cooked and served cold when I was complaining, they brought me another bowl with not cooked yet, but at least warmer vegetables.
Stopped by for lunch and was greeted and seated immediately opting for the bar side. Was recommended the French Dip and frankly it was one of the best I’ve ever eaten. The meat was obviously the Prime Ribeye they have on the dinner menu but it wasn’t that tougher rendition most places have for lunch. It appeared as though it was made specifically for me. It was perfect in temp and melted in my mouth. The bread was spectacularly fresh. The Au jus delicious with condiments of horseradish, sour cream horseradish, ranch dressing provided also. Crispy steakhouse fries and a well poured Crown press to drink and I was in heaven. The very nice well spoken bartender only added to the dining experience. Other diners arrived and started to fill in the bar and the bartender offered the same personalized service to each and everyone. These weren’t 20 something kids. We were all over 40/50+ and I think I’m safe in stating that we appreciate that kind of service in this day and age. Which leads to the prices. They were fair very fair for the type of service, quality of food, atmosphere received. Could I have eaten more inexpensively? Sure almost anywhere else in Payson is more inexpensive and if that is what motivates you then this is not your place. However if you do like or have time to dine instead of just eat. If you want a experience instead of just something to quell your hunger then I feel very comfortable in offering you this positive review. Treat yourself, treat a friend go to Fargo’s.
I spoke with Debby about my experience, and she mentioned that they had three different chefs who each had their own interpretation of medium. She even claimed that the owner agreed with this approach. I’ve been ordering prime rib medium rare for the past 30 years, and two out of three times, it was wrong. I asked to speak with the owner, but she had just left the building. My wife and I chose this restaurant to celebrate our 18th anniversary, and I’m disappointed with the management's response. I observed Debby's interactions with other customers and found them lacking. It’s disheartening that the establishment survived the pandemic while many others did not. I plan to share a photo of the prime rib I received from the casino tomorrow to show how it should be cooked. In her response on Google, the owner acknowledged that the prime rib was incorrectly prepared, yet she justified the mistake instead of taking responsibility. I never expected to encounter such an attitude from a restaurant owner, and it’s clear why the staff mirrors that demeanor. Many reviews also mention rude service, which doesn’t bode well for the overall experience. I’m glad Jordan was the exception to this trend. After spending $170 on food and drinks, I would have hoped for a better attitude from the owner. I would advise against dining here, as the quality of food does not reflect the high prices. If I were you, I’d consider the Casino Buffet for prime rib instead. There’s also a McDonald’s right down the road that I would recommend. By the way, the photo of the prime rib is from the casino we visited the next day—this is how medium rare prime rib should look. It didn’t cost me $33, and it was cooked perfectly on the first try and tasted amazing!
As you approach the restaurant, you feel at ease entering. The design and architecture are inviting; the wide entrance is impressive but doesn’t overwhelm, conveying the charm of a cozy mountain lodge without excess space. Our seating was comfortable, tidy, and offered stunning views through the large windows, complemented by beautiful woodwork and decor. I have to mention the extensive menu, which caters to a variety of tastes. After some deliberation, I ordered the Money Maker Martini – absolutely delicious! My wife chose the Arnold Palmer, which was also excellently crafted. We started our meal with an appetizer of Calamari Fries that were hand-rolled, perfectly seasoned, deep-fried, and served with a mild yet flavorful Chipotle Tartar Aioli and a Thai dipping sauce – definitely worth repeating! The lentil soup I had was fantastic. For our main courses, I enjoyed the Bleu Cheese Prime Rib Sandwich, which featured aged Prime Rib on a hoagie with Bleu Cheese crumbles, caramelized onions, salad, tomatoes, and a fragrant garlic mayonnaise, along with some amazing steak fries. My wife had the Fargo Philly Cheese Steak, made with sliced aged Prime Rib and sautéed mushrooms, which was superb. We can't wait to come back again! Bon appétit!
