From the moment we met Tyrella, our gracious host and talented chef, we all agreed it was the highlight of our week in Dunkeld. Tyrella prepared an incredible bruschetta with pine nuts and Swiss chard from the garden, a delicious duck cassoulet that was incredibly tender, and a fresh salad with greens from the garden. The dessert was a light and creamy lemon posset with almond cookies, served in her charming candlelit dining room. As an American, I had never tried lemon posset before, so when I asked about it, Tyrella kindly offered to send me the recipe. It was waiting for me in my email when we returned to our cottage. All four of us give this remarkable dining experience a glowing recommendation and hope to visit again someday.
Tyrella no longer includes a welcome drink with their set meal, but this did not detract from our lovely evening. The setting of the cottage is stunning, and we were able to enjoy our drinks outside while taking in the views and the garden. We all had a great dining experience and look forward to returning next year. Thank you, Tyrella, for providing a unique and eclectic experience.
We discovered Milton Cottage through a leaflet in our vacation rental and were intrigued by the concept: Tyrella welcomes up to diners at a time into her own home and prepares a three-course meal for a set price. Along with a complimentary drink upon arrival, guests are required to bring their own wine, making it a great value. Tyrella is a wonderful host, warm and welcoming without being intrusive, and her home is both charming and beautiful. Despite arriving on a stormy October evening during a power outage, Tyrella had lanterns lit to guide us and fires roaring in both the sitting and dining rooms. The food was exceptional in quality, with Tyrella taking note of any dietary preferences or dislikes when we made the reservation. This was the highlight of our enjoyable week in Perthshire, and we highly recommend the experience.
I was told about Milton Cottage by friends, and invited to join them on their next visit there. A group of five of us booked for an evening meal Tyrella will usually manage to accommodate your preferred date and time. We arrived at this...lovely cottage on a sunny evening and sat out in the covered porch where we enjoyed a glass of wine, and the views of the surrounding countryside, before going indoors for our meal. We enjoyed a lovely three course dinner and coffee/tea seated at the elegant dining table in Tyrella's comfortable and welcoming home. I think that the price is very reasonable, and because you bring your own wine to have with the meal, you are not paying restaurant prices for your drinks. If you'd like a meal out that is a bit out of the ordinary, give Milton Cottage a try!
Tyrella no longer does B&B at Milton Cottage which is a disappointment for all who have stayed there but the good news (and especially for locals) is that she does dinners.Think of it more of a home dining experience than a restaurant. A delicious, intimate...and very inexpensive Dinner Party' without any of the hassle! Tyrella obviously loves cooking because her food is superb. Unusual, delicious, beautifully presented and usually home grown and locally sourced. We have been a few times and everything has been wonderful but the dishes that stand out for me were Bruscetta with home made wild garlic pesto, mozzarella and proscuitto. Plump sweet partridges on a bed of barley and green peas, warm squares of chocolate brownie with cardomen and ginger with marscapone and marmalade ice cream. The Brownies were crisp on the outside with warm gooey spiced chocolate on the inside and to die for! On arrival you get a warm welcome from Tyrella and her two terriers. You will then be offered a drink either in a glass covered terrace on warm evenings or a cosy sitting room with peat fire. The views are tremendous and the setting very peaceful. The cottage is exclusively yours for the evening and she will cater for to guests. The delicious course meal which includes coffee and a drink is only pp and you can take as much wine as you want to drink with you. Tyrella has only been doing this since May and only advertises by word of mouth so hurry and try it as once the secret is out I should think it will get very booked up. I really recommend anyone who is in the Perthshire area gives it a try.
