We visited Zur Traube for dinner when staying nearby wanting to enjoy a traditional meal in an authentic Gasthof. This restaurant attracts locals and visitors, there is smoking in some areas but didn’t cause us any issue. The menu offered a wide range so deciding took us some time, we enjoyed drinks, Soup (GrauKasse was perfect for a cheese lover), Schnitzel and Sausage and Strudels with coffee all for approx £55. So excellent value. Service was friendly, and we had a great meal.
Very good traditional Austrian food, an English menu would have helped, but with my poor German and some help from google we’ve had anice evening and excellent food. My deer steak was very well cooked, the sauce and the garniture with apple slices with berries on top added a sweet and sour taste, that I like so much, there were also some slices of a ‘ knodel’ like stuffed with prelims really enjoyable. My partner had lamb, well cooked as well, but not as sparking as my deer.
Hotel is in Pettneu am Alberg, around 10 minutes by car to and from St Anton Skiing area. Zur Traube is a nice gasthaus with friendly staff and spacious rooms. What more can you wish for? Breakfast is great and beer is cold. Ski bus takes 10-15 minutes to the ski lifts of St Anton.
Looking for a traditional Austrian Gasthof offering tasty regional food the Traube (Grape) certainly delivers. The list of desserts especially offers Austrian classics such as Palatschinken, various Strudel and filled dumplings. The cheese dishes are also very tasty. Unfortunately, smoking is allowed in part of the restaurant (this is not unusual in the area), so if you are a non-smoker it is wise to reserve a table in the smaller non-smoking section. Service was prompt if a little officious.
