After reading the reviews I can see both sides? The food is definitely good. I probably need to try more Indonesian food to compare but overall the chicken and beef I got was flavorful and the portion was decent. I also see the other side of people saying the food is overpriced? it definitely is. I?ve gotten this amount of food in the hole in the wall bodegas and corner stores? I tried to call ahead but they don?t do that, and it just seemed like the lady was moving in slow motion? lol. I might bring my vegan/vegetarian friends here because they do have a lot of those options. I may go back but I give it 4 stars. Probably closer to 3.5/5.
This is by far my favorite place to eat in Philly. I've been going since a plate of rice and three sides were eight dollars! During my most recent visit, I was surprised to see that they were charging by the side dish instead of the plate but I understand why. What used to be eight dollars was now 21 and honestly it was completely worth it. The flavors are perfect. One of my go to is the jackfruit. You may find it hard to get a seat in this tiny space so consider takeout. Lastly, I love the family who owns this restaurant. They are so friendly and warm.
When I went to Hardena, the food is already prepared, and it is served cafeteria style. Each side is $2-$8 and my food was around $24, not including my drink, which was $7-$8. For my mixed rice plate, I ordered the bakwan (corn fritter), terong balado (eggplant in sweet and savory red pepper sauce), ikan (fish of the day), rendang (beef stewed in coconut milk and spices), and rice. I also got the cendol drink (homemade pandan jelly, coconut milk, ice and palm sugar syrup). You're supposed to mix the drink since the palm sugar syrup is at the bottom and they give you a spoon to eat it with instead of a straw. If you do not want rice, I recommend telling them at the beginning of your order since the worker scooped rice automatically for my plate. The corn fritter was delicious and perfectly crispy. The eggplant was flavorful and not spicy. The fish was tasted like curry fish and the beef was very tender. Overall, it was a lot of food and the portion was generous that I was able to split it into two meals (lunch and dinner). For the drink, I do not recommend getting the cendol. The pandan jelly had an almost mushy texture (overly soft) and I'm not sure if it's because of the palm sugar syrup, but my stomach hurt after drinking it, even though there was not any dairy. I went on a rainy Thursday afternoon and the place was pretty packed. In the restaurant, they only have 5 tables, but luckily I was able to grab a seat. Overall, the workers were friendly and they were gave me a container to take my leftovers when I asked. I would recommend coming here again for Indonesian food!
Amazing food and presentation with the pizza box there's a little selection of everything! Ordered for takeout so unsure of interior and service.
