The outdoor setup is practical and charming, with a touch of kitsch. They often have live music with a $4 entertainment fee, which supports the musicians. However, sometimes they run out of menu items without informing customers, leading to long waits and, in some cases, serving food that is not fit for consumption. While this was a rare occurrence for me after nearly a decade of dining there, it was disappointing to receive subpar food without an apology or replacement. The lackluster customer service can be frustrating, but given the limited options for Jamaican food in the area, it's worth a visit for the tasty dishes, just be wary of the quality on certain nights.
During our first visit to this restaurant, we were excited to try it based on the positive reviews we had heard. However, we encountered some confusion when trying to place our order and find a seat, which was not a great start. We ended up sitting on the veranda and were served by two waitresses. The service was lackluster, with one waitress displaying a disinterested and almost argumentative attitude. The food, when it finally arrived, was disappointing. The Jamaican Jerk Chicken was overpriced and too spicy to eat, while the vegetarian sampler platter was mediocre. The cornbread was expensive and arrived too late to enjoy with our meal. Overall, the service and food quality at this restaurant were subpar, and we do not plan to return. We prefer to support establishments that value their customers and provide a more positive dining experience.
I have tried some of the best Jamaican food in Philadelphia at J Hut! While the service may not be exceptional, the flavors definitely stand out. Whenever I'm in the area, I always opt for take-out from J Hut. I highly recommend this place for delicious and flavorful Jamaican cuisine!
The food at this restaurant is delicious, but they are not willing to make substitutions. The woman at the front is not very friendly, and even though she said she would make an exception this one time, she refused to do it again. This kind of attitude is off-putting and we will not be returning because of it. The food is good, but the service is lacking. Also, they do not allow customers to use the restroom. Just a heads up, I did not request extra chicken, I simply asked for quality pieces of chicken.
I absolutely adored the jerk chicken, fried plantains, and Jamaican cabbage that made up my lunch special! The portions were very generous and the food was cooked perfectly. I am looking forward to trying out the next platter!
