There is a lot of shade at the zoo, which is super important in Phoenix . Everything is immaculate, and the zoo employees have always been very courteous. The zoo has splash pads for the kids, a really nice merry-go-round and a tram. The animal exhibits are organized with a lot of fun information for kids. There are a lot of bathrooms , which is always helpful. Another bonus: you can take in a cooler and eat a picnic lunch by the water. We purchased a Family Zoo Membership, which is a great deal if you live nearby. Be sure to check out the Monkey Village if you go. It's very unique. Parking is free, and the walk to the gate is reasonable. The zoo rents scooters and strollers. Another huge benefit to membership: Members get in one hour early. The zoo has the usual animal exhibits that would be typical at most zoos. I am so grateful to have this zoo available to visit as a local.
We went while we were on vacation in Phoenix. The park is rather large and spread out so don't forget to hydrate. I'm sure it's hot most of the year there. There were many exhibits and lots of animals we haven't seen before. My son was really excited about the Condors. They had several species of them there. There were a lot of animals that weren't on exhibit while we were there but that happens all the time. The signage around the zoo was not easy to follow. We got turned around several times. One area that we were supposed to see two animals seemed to be more of a nature walk more than anything. I think that area needs a warning because you are climbing up a dusty hill and see 1 animal. There also weren't too many places that you could step inside to cool off. With Phoenix being so hot, you would think there would be more buildings like that.
I was a bit disappointed. There's a lot of building south single pull doors that make it hard to maneuver with two toddlers in a double stroller. The walking paths are nice and very interesting, but the ponds were very green where some birds were. Lots of birds.
Came here with my friend and her kindergartener and my 18 month year old on Saturday. Still a hot outing for a Washingtonian but doable in the morning! Really enjoyed all the exhibits and animals, a lot of the animals were out and about and the kids loved going to all the exhibits. We left before seeing everything since the my little one was ready for a nap. There's plenty of shade at the zoo, parking was easy, and it wasn't too crowded when we were there.
Extremely disappointed for the price and expectation of a large zoo. We didn't see any animal activity. Looks like a new exhibit is coming and in November but that didn't do us any good today. The rhino was sleeping, the lion was sleeping, no zebras. We saw flamingos and baboons. If you're looking to take a nice expensive walk go here! Otherwise save your money and time.
