Don Jose Mexican Food - Phoenix

My coworkers I come here often for our Friday lunch as we always enjoy the food. As a Mexican woman, I can honestly say that their food is up to par I'd highly recommend it.

The service and atmosphere at this restaurant are excellent, however, the menudo was disappointing. Despite my efforts to enjoy it, I don't think the ingredients were fresh. It seems that the restaurant may have cut corners in sourcing their menu items. I've heard that it used to be great 20 years ago, but it seems like changes may have been made by the new management.

That being said, here is my review of the restaurant: I ordered the taco combo and was initially put off by the sight of yellow cheese in my dish. I have always associated yellow cheese with inauthentic Mexican food, but I decided to give it a chance. I started with the pork taco, and was pleasantly surprised by the flavorful carnitas and the mild sauce. The raw tomato added a nice freshness to the dish, and I soon forgot about the yellow cheese. Next, I tried the beans that came with the tacos, and they were also delicious. They had a hint of Mexican spices and were topped with queso fresco, which added a nice touch. Overall, I was impressed with the flavors and quality of the food, and I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a true taste of Mexico.

I love this place. I have been going there for years. Great posole. Very friendly.
