Great opportunity for a relaxed country lunch with refined food and a glass of decent wine.we have experienced a three course lunch with a complimentary chef's appetiser and enjoyed every dish. If we are around there area - I would go there again.
We were so pleased to find that this little gem is still open - tucked away on a side road near Canberra Airport, and with plenty of off-street parking. Great wine list [we had a French rose] and a menu that reflects seasonal produce: 2 courses for $50 each or 3 for $65 - great value. I had a goat cheese mousse and a sweet potato dauphinoise slice garnished with roasted Jerusalem artichokes and hazelnuts. My partner had the fabulous confit of duck entree followed by pork jowl - unexpectedly rich and full of flavour. Generous servings, beautifully plated and delivered with a smile [and a gorgeous French accent]. No room for dessert sadly - and they sounded just marvelous. Good café latte to round off. We will be back I know.
Well isn't this a hidden gem!!!! I love Piallago, it's like driving to the country but in Canberra. You turn in then & it's like a little getaway - s hidden treasure. Other places I've been to here have been lovely garden cafes, I thought Pod food was too but it's a more than that, a little bit fancy & quite intimate too. The menu isn't huge; 4 mains & 2 sides & 5 course degustation, not to mention dessert, wine & beautiful smooth coffee. I chose the vegetarian main & loved the Jerusalem artichokes. My fave was definitely the sides garlic & rock salt potatoes & broccoli & Brussel sprouts with bacon. My friend had the trout & loved it. It was little more pricey than I had expected but well worth it. DELICIOUS I will absolutely come again - maybe dinner with someone special.
Better half's birthday and the challenge of finding a 4-star restaurant on a Sunday in Canberra. Pod Food was one of few open food houses on a bitterly cold Canberra winter's night. Very warm welcome at the door, and an offer of drinks very soon after. Starters while deciding among 7 guests with clear description of each dish. Excellent choice across all courses - what to pick?!! The duck confit was a modern take on the classic French dish. Presented beautifully and clearly 'a happy duck'! French onion soon and other beetroot (veggie option) were all thoroughly enjoyed. Seasoned lamb and pork jowls for mains accompanied by tasty sides, and again presented beautifully. Very filling but a little room for either a modern take of lime cheesecake or bread n' butter pudding. All served with handmade ice cream. Excellent coffees and 7 happy diners. While the food is near-perfection it is the service and the charm and graciousness in which the service is delivered that makes Pod Food so special. Glasses were constantly filled with wine or water, and the smiles were never retained! Great place on a cold Canberra evening. Will have to come back and enjoy on a cold Canberra morning where the 4-course degustation sounds simply decadent!
