The chili was simply not a chili but a tomatoes soup, with a lot of different beans and chickpeas ( one of those bean medley can?) and the Saskatchewan organic, grass fed beef was probably mostly still in the field, not in the bowl . A pity because the taste was very good...but had to be for sure less watery. The Burger (pig and beef) was tasty, but here too the caramelised apples were too much watery, so that the bun was just a wet sponge. The mashed potatoes were good and well done. The egg -salad sandwich was more a egg -salad bun,and maybe some 'invention' could do it more 'personal'.The place is very clean ,but a little more attention for the empty drinks could be appreciated .
We were recently surprised to discover the existence of this Cafe when friends suggested we visit one evening. Mindful of the kitchen closing at 7:00, our group pf 4 arrived before 6:30 and found the place almost empty. It's a cosy little spot with some character inside, but in a non-descript strip-mall location. After spending a few minutes chatting with the ladies about menu options, I settled on a PB burger (stands for Pilot Butte, not peanut butter!) and a side of their smashed potato poutine. While the burger was quite delish I could have chowed down a lot more of the poutine! Have you ever taken left over mashed potatoes and pan fried them with cheese and other goodies? Yep, that's what these are. Amazingly good. Two others in our group had the Rodeo Burger (also delicious by all reports) and the 4th had the adult grilled cheese. Based on what I saw on the table across from me, the grilled cheese will be on my radar the next time we visit. I accompanied dinner with one of the local (Regina) Rebellion beers they have on tap, and followed it with affogato (espresso over ice cream). Only two minor complaints. Maybe a bit pricier than I would have expected for a cafe, but not bad (~$50/couple) for everything we ate and drank. And they don't have decaf espresso so I had to risk regular espresso on the affogato, something I don't normally do in the evening. But it was worth it!We will be back.
In late August, my group and I made the quick trip from Regina to Pilot Butte with high hopes of enjoying lunch at the Blue Rooster Café. A couple of people in our group had eaten there before and recommended it. Unfortunately, we were let down when we arrived. The café appeared closed, with no cars in the parking lot and a sign on the window. There was no mention of the closure on their website, so we assumed it was temporary and found another place to eat. Later, I discovered on their Facebook page (linked at the bottom of their website) that the Café had actually closed for good at the end of July after five years in business. However, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the Café had reopened in September under new ownership and with new hours. I recommend checking their Facebook page for daily specials if you plan on visiting.
Amazing food. The lunch we had, including a black bean burger, smashed potatoes, and coleslaw, was exceptional. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. The atmosphere is charming and comfortable.
I visited this cafe based on a family member's recommendation, and I'm so grateful we did. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast and excellent cafe mocha coffee. The atmosphere was cozy and we didn't feel rushed, allowing us to relax, chat, and catch up with family. It was a lovely way to start the day. If I lived nearby, I would definitely be a regular visitor to this cafe.
