I enjoy this place because of the ambience. It has a really tall ceiling and noise is minimal. The tables are well spaced. It's kind of nice eating at the museum. The food is just OK. It seems pretty clear a lot of the stuff is made ahead and served when ordered (deviled eggs were a little hard and too cold from fridge). The cake for desert was a little hard and cold too. But overall the food is decent and the ambience makes it a place I will return to.
When, oh when, will the Carnegie Cafe improve? It’s been average for a very long time. Ordered a BLT that was sans bacon. Huh? The “large plate” of gnocchi was, in fact, quite small (although robust on taste). I think this place has a money problem; for such a long time, it’s a cafe that has obviously been cutting costs corners. Will head across the street to the Union Grill the next time I am visiting the museum.
The Carnegie Cafe is always a wonderful spot to get together with friends when we stop at the museum!
I ordered a salmon salad and expected a whole piece of fish, but only a few tablespoons of broken salmon. very disappointed.
