I hope the new owner has good luck, but I wanted to share how amazing Kamakshi's was. I used to eat there regularly and introduced many people to South Indian food, and they all loved it. The variety, authenticity, and quality of the food was unbeatable. The owner's passion for culture (Carnatic music in the background) and commitment to quality was evident to everyone. I once saw him make a chai in front of me to ensure it was perfect, and now I do the same with my chai. Kamashi's Kitchen is the best restaurant I've ever been to. I've had dosas all over, from Toronto to NYC, Jersey, and San Francisco, and Kamashi's was the best. The lassis never disappoint and the parathas with the wiper tikki masala are perfect. Its location in front of the San Carlos Caltrain makes it a perfect pit stop. The restaurant is beautiful, clean, and always has good music playing. I would bring my parents here and confidently say they serve the perfect dosas. (Updated from previous reviews on 03/15/2016 and 03/16/2016)
I have dined at this restaurant numerous times and each time I discover something new and incredibly delicious! Being a big fan of spicy foods, I am always impressed by the flavorful dishes they serve. It's a 100% vegetarian menu, so I never have to worry about any animal products. The owners are also very friendly. I highly recommend trying this place, you won't be disappointed. I suggest ordering from the Southern Indian menu for some unique and spicy dishes, and if you ever see the gobi manchurian on the menu, make sure to order it!
Update kamakshi’s kitchen has recently been converted to dosachaatcafe. I suspect that the quality of the restaurant was too high to wait, and the changing schedule has worried me. I wish the new owner a lot of luck, but wanted to write something that explains how incredible kamakshi’s was. I ate there regularly and brought many people who had never tried South Indian food, everyone came away to love it. the variety, authenticity and quality of the feeds was unmatched. the enthusiasm of the owner for culture (carnathic music always played in the background) and uncompromising attitude to quality was clear to everyone. he once mixed a chai before me to make sure it was upset, now I do with my chai regularly. kamashi's kitchen is the best restaurant I've ever had in my life. I'm sorry it is. I have eaten many dosa, from toronto to nyc, jersey and san francisco. that is the best I ever had, and the rest of the menu is just perfect...lassi never tastes down and they get two parathas with the wiper tikki masala. right in front of san carlos caltrain makes it perfect to stop on the road. it is beautiful and clean and there are always good music playing. I would take my parents here and tell them nothing they have the perfect dosa. updated by previous review on the Tuesday march updated by previous review on
Eating was really great here and the service was phenomenal! they have a good amount of vegan options and everything is clearly marked. my employees and I thought here was a quick lunch before I went back to work and it was pretty busy as it was mother day, but our server was very friendly and attentive to our needs, asking and time retaining. he even took time to show my colleague a book about food allergies that was really sweet. we're coming back!
The service was excellent with our server asking about our dietary preferences and helping us choose dishes. The menu clearly marked vegan options and ones that could be made vegan. We loved the thali plate and the manchurian cauliflower was outstanding. We will definitely be returning.
