We visited for breakfast and were not disappointed, the best we’ve had in a very long time. “The Mess Breakfast” tasty sausage, lovely meaty bacon with just a little nicely rendered and slightly crispy fat on the edge, lovely scrambled eggs “just cooked” so not dry, proper Heinz beans, a nice crispy and not oily hash brown, and lovely fresh granary toast. Spot on, and all served hot. The coffee was lovely too and again nice and hot, even the flat white which so often is served luke warm elsewhere. With the lovely marina location and rustic nautical atmosphere it’s a great find. Highly recommended!
We were looking for. Quick breakfast, this came up on google but well worth the visit and we would go again if in the are. It was a lovely day and the only thing that I would recommend is that they point out the terrace upstairs which would have made it so much more enjoyable but we didn’t see it until we left, and it wasn’t mentioned. But would still return, all breakfast ingredients used including the tea were great quality and cooked very nicely. And we are quite fussy
Friendly and comfortable. Food was generous and yummy. Can’t fault this place. The staff are really lovely and kind. Will be back
We have enjoyed several trips to The Mess Room and bought several of their vouchers for friends eg birthdays to enjoy breakfast which has worked very well. Very friendly staff, great choices of food and excellent coffee. Comfortable tables both inside and out. Marine themed decor. Easy parking.
Visited the mess room for morning coffee and a chat with a friend. Parking was and is limited and the place was very busy. We started off having to share a table with another couple not the best when you want to have a private conversation! The staff here are fabulous! Three super lovely ladies in the kitchen that were welcoming and cooked great food. I had a toasted tea cake which was as big as my hand, warm and tasty. And omg they give out great slabs of butter with it which is amazing. No puddly little micro squares here! My only issue is that there are no toilets in the building. You have to ask the staff for a code and you have to leave the cafe, walk across the boat yard and use portable toilets on site. They were cold and wet and not so nice. This is a great place if you’re working on your boat in the yard or wish to have a great fry up or like me an enormous toasted tea cake! It’s more a pit stop than relaxing lunch. Saying that would I return? The answer is yes but knowing I’m fully aware of what The Mess offers.
