Pizza Express - Poole

We sadly received disgusting service during our recent visit to Pizza Express at Tower Park. Last Tuesday I went to this restaurant with my daughter, my friend and her two children. Upon being seated we informed the waitress straight away that we would be splitting the bill and that my friend had Tesco 's vouchers to use and that I 'd like to make use of their kids eat free offer. The waitress quite abruptly told us we would not be allowed to split the bill and make use of both these offers whilst being seated at the same table. We questioned this as it seemed a little strange and she reluctantly said she 'd check with the manager but as we sat there for the next ten minutes we watched as she served other customers but failed to speak to any management on our behalf. When she finally returned she simply reiterated quite rudely that we could not split the bill whilst being seated at the same table. We therefore asked if we might be moved to the empty tables directly behind us which were separate but close enough together for us all to be able to still talk. The waitress then told us that if we wanted to use both Tesco vouchers and make use of the offer on separate bills we 'd have to be sat far apart and she motioned to opposite ends of the restaurant! My friend began to politely question this but before she could finish her sentence, the waitress sighed, rolled her eyes and walked off! We sat aghast for a few moments, unsure as to what just happened, then had to gather our belongings and leave. We walked straight into Pizza Hut opposite, and received the most wonderful service by comparison. Almost a week on and I still cannot believe the rudeness of this waitress and the poor service we experienced. Even our children were shocked at the eye rolling!

Our experience in pizza express was fantastic and that’s all down to the hard work and effort of our waitress sophie! she made sure we were fully catered for and happy throughout our whole experience. this is what dining out should be like

Normally, in a Pizza Express, I go for the pizza and am rarely disappointed. Nice size and usually adequate toppings. Last time I went for the lasagne. Nicely layered, didn't collapse when cutting it, and tasted really good. Today, though, at Tower Park, the lasagne choice left me underwhelmed. The pizzas came out and looked good. I had food envy... The lasagne placed before me was sizzling around the edges, nice and hot with just the right amount browning on top. Like it! However, the general appearance and consistency was one of an Asda microwave meal lasagne, cooked on high for 4 minutes. It was saggy and spread out, barely holding shape and certainly not the built up, layered look and feel of what a lasagne should be, like other Pizza Express restaurants produced in the past. Taste wise, it was OK. Somewhat better than a £3.50 option from a supermarket. Actually, it was convincingly better, taste-wise, than a microwave meal version. For the £14 or so it cost, I would not expect anything else. Sadly, though, it wasn't making me want to have the lasagne again. It now feels a bit hit and miss. As for the restaurant, it was only serving 4 tables, so while the food came out fairly quickly, the atmosphere was lacking, but that wasn't their fault. I was also offered parmesan cheese, but that never arrived. Yes, I could have gone to find it or my server myself. It just felt that once offered and accepted, the server literally went off to get it but carried on doing other things, rather being a bit more attentive. I am just saying how it is and don't want to be too critical. All the other food choices at our table were good. I would still return, as Pizza Express is usually an easy choice, and we know what to expect. Drinks are way overpriced, but a jug of water is free! Maybe just remember my review if you fancy giving the lasagne a go. It might be OK, it might not. The pizza is generally consistent with a great choice.
