We drove into town after dark with no accommodation booked and pulled in at a random motel. We asked where there was somewhere to eat and were told the motel had a restaurant. We thought OMG - a motel restaurant, but we were a bit tired so we booked in. OMG was right but not in the direction we thought. It was quite simply one of the best restaurants I have ever had the pleasure to visit. The food was exquisite, the service great. Next time we are over we would take a detour to visit again.
We came here for dinner and chose the Tasting Menu. Every single plate brought out was delicious and well presented. Great drinks list. Locally sourced ingredients, great service. Really lovely dinner out.
We decided to opt for the 8 course tasting menu in order to try as many things as possible and it was a great decision. The combination of native herbs and plants with more familiar foods was truly exceptional. Every mouthful was a new taste sensation and utterly delicious. Although 8 may seem a lot of courses, portions are small and we did not feel as though we had overindulged. The service was superb with a highly knowledgeable waiter and the wine list offered a very good choice, including some quite unusual wines. We stayed in lovely Port Ferry while touring the beautiful Great Ocean Road but I would happily return to Port Ferry simply to dine again at Fen!
Certainly didn't disappoint. We chose from the main menu. I had the special Marron from WA which was sweet with a beautiful creamy sauce that complemented the seafood beautifully. Hubby had the crab which was so lovely. Main was duck which was done two ways
