Doubleday - Port Isabel

Ambiance loud (sports bar so what do you expect lol) temperature was freeeeeeeeeeeezing the night we were there. The lemon pepper wings were good. Just a regular ol sports bar and beer was cold.

1 star rating is being generous. When we walked in, it smelled like sewage. We should 've walked out, but decided to give it a chance anyways. Big mistake. This place has gone downhill. Aside from my party of 2, there were 4 men sitting at the bar. Waitress came to take our drink order then stood at the bar chatting with the men at the bar, with her back towards us for at least 15 minutes. My husband had to get up and walk to her to tell her we needed refills. Food was gross. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and requested the bacon be extra crispy. I got a sandwich with a (1) paper-thin chicken tender that was flavorless and extremely dry, almost like chicken jerky. The bacon was rubbery, not crispy like I requested. When I was about halfway done with my sandwich, I noticed the chicken had a 'fishy ' smell. I stopped eating it at that point but did have a stomach ache all night. Waitress kept returning to chat at bar; we had to walk to her every time we needed something, like drink refills and salt and pepper. Will not return.

Awesomist bar in the valley! It's really a sports museum with a bar and kitchen. Good food, great atmosphere and the staff is great! Highly recommended.

I still really enjoy this place as a low key, food and beer dispensary. Wife loves the Friday special of fish fillets. I really like the Mexican food, the fajita tacos make my gut happy. The menu has been greatly reduced since Covid. And apparently never to return? Not sure. Sorry I don't have photos of the new menu.

When there is a water main break on the island you find interesting places to try. When we first walked in I was amazed by all the sports memorabilia on the walls and that they had tables in what looked to be a boxing ring. A must see for any sports lover. We warned at the beginning that service was going to be slow because they were short handed. We got there before the rest of the island figured out that they would have to leave the island for dinner. These guys soon got hit by that crowd, so you could see them frantically trying to call staff in. I felt bad for them, but on a bright not our waiter did stay compose and didn't show stress until we were leaving. On to the food, We ordered fried pickles which were very salty but still ok. I had the fish burger which was very good and the hubby also enjoyed his burger. Overall a good place!
