Everything about the Scotch Lodge felt homey. This subterranean clubhouse has rich, dark wood and moody lighting that highlights the tasteful decor.We sat at the bar and selected cocktails from the menu islay daiquiri and pandannold fashioned. Our bartender (kaz? Katz? Tat? It was difficult to hear) was incredible, recommending other spots in PDX we might enjoy.We ordered beef tartare and ate every bite.
We decided to have a cocktail and early appetizer at Scotch Lodge before heading to a late reservation at a highly reviewed, James Beard-winning chef’s tasting around the corner… our food and experience at Scotch Lodge surpassed our “fancy” dinner by leaps and bounds! The ambiance was akin to some of the more bespoke bars we have explored in NYC, the food was incredible, cocktails inventive, and service top-notch. We ordered the seasonal Apricot dish and the toast with whipped lard. Both were outstanding. Each bite was surprising and well balanced. We are already counting down the days until we are back in Portland and can visit this special establishment again.
Went with my wife for date night. Bar has a cool speak easy feel. You could walk past it on the street, but once your down in the basement bar, you'll be glad you didn't! Selection of spirits is great, food is tasty more sharing and nibbling than full on entres, cocktails are creative and fun. Has a focus on Scotch, but has plenty of other spirit based cocktails and spirits on hand for the non scotch drinkers.
