Feedback gevenI will not be going back to Sur Lie. The food was tasty and innovative, but the service was quite haughty. I believe this attitude stems from both the management and the server. They do not allow separate checks, but encourage splitting the bill evenly, putting those on a tighter budget in a difficult position. Additionally, we were asked to leave our table abruptly in the middle of a pleasant conversation to make way for a reservation. Overall, a disappointing experience.
Great night out at Sur Lie which came highly recommended by a Portland friend. The ambience of the room was great not too noisy and tables well spread out. We shared four plates, all of them fabulous and flavorful, the highlight the popover with mushroom ragu. Shared a delicious granita for dessert which was light and flavorful. Service was super. Can't wait to get back to Portland to dine here again.
This restaurant was recommended to us a couple of years ago by a Portland native. On a short trip to Portland in 2021, we put this on a short list of restaurants to revisit, and we were not sorry! I like to dine at a restaurant that offers something I would not, or could not, make easily at home. A $58 steak? No, thank you! So this is my kind of restaurant. Most of the menu consists of smaller plates, and the staff are great, knowledgeable guides. Much of the menu is plant-based, which does not necessarily mean vegetarian or vegan, though I 'm betting that many of the dishes can be prepared that way. Our waiter suggested that we order 2-3 plates each, so we ordered the Butter (lovely local rolls with delicious cultured butter and blueberries), Seasonal Veg (on this particular night, cabbage in a delicious sesame oyster sauce), Toast (shrimp toast with scallions and a delicious sauce), and Eggplant (Japanese eggplant in a curry spaetzle sauce). Our wine, a white sangiovese, was also a bit off the beaten track. Since none of our dishes were heavy, we shared the two desserts offered: a chocolate avocado mousse and a meyer lemon tart. Outside seating is available, but we sat inside. I would suggest making a reservation. Every single dish was delicious!
We hadn’t been to Sur Lie since the beginning of the pandemic. We immediately felt safe and comfortable seeing the tables spacing and alcohol spray on every table. The cocktails were to die for and the food, beautifully presented and delicious. Service was great. We will be back soon!
My husband and I went to this restaurant on Saturday night. We ordered the grilled octopus, steak, and pork belly. The food was incredibly tasty - you can tell they put a lot of effort into their dishes. The staff were polite, knowledgeable, and very accommodating.
