I visited this place back in the 1980s while I was in the British Army, canoeing down the Hudson River.
My fiancée and I were on a walk near the Locust Grove estate, looking for potential venues, when we came across this restaurant. We thought we’d check it out, but as soon as we stepped onto the property, we were asked to leave because it was private property. It felt like we were judged as a gay couple, as if our money didn’t matter to them—especially considering this place doesn’t even have a dock for boats.
The hospitality was lacking! I had just arrived after visiting Poughkeepsie and took a walk by the Hudson River. I stood at the dock for a moment to admire the beauty of the night when a staff member from the club approached me and rudely asked me to leave. I was simply enjoying the view by the water, far away from the actual property. It was a very disappointing experience.
