I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. The decor is a unique mix of styles and there is so much to take in. I always end up spending a lot of money here, but it's definitely worth a visit.
A trip to the Old Electric Shop was planned into our day book hunting at Hay on Wye. Unfortunately it wasn't as hoped. The shop itself is mildly interesting but trying too hard to be edgy, in the same way those achingly unpleasant little shops...of horror found in and around Hoxton/ Clerkenwell or Spitalfields in the used to. The menu doesn't offer much but we decided to kick off with a hot chocolate, at a cup I hoped for something hot, it wasn't. Next up breakfast and to avoid further disappointment we ordered one to share (Buckwheat pancakes with berries and Maple Syrup), again not very warm, the pancakes were stodgy, tasteless and smelled like TCP, the lack of fruit made the whole thing a bit of a con at Maple syrup was detected. Had either of the two orders been reasonable, warm or tasty we would have stayed for lunch, instead we headed to the excellent Oscars for fish and chips in a warm environment with less cool' staff.
This is a friendly quirky place to eat and shop. The cooked food is great. I have been here twice, the cakes seem to dry out maybe as they are in a refrigerated display, not sure. Love the coffee. My go to place when in...Hay. Food I think is veggie vegan, my “tarian” is flexi, so yes eat meat and find the meat free food here great, tasty and filling.
A late Xmas gift from my friend to have a trip out and lunch out in Hay. We chose it after her daughters ate there on Monday and loved it. The food was delicious...hard to decide what to have, so had options each, and...a chai latte. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit, and would most definitely recommend for all reasons on title. Tables spaced and masks worn by staff. I hope to go back some day when in the area.
