In the past the mill was also a customs, here, in the midland between the today’s Piedmont and Lombardy. I have been here for lunch, in a quiet not working day. The menu contains various dishes that can meet all tastes fish, meat and vegetarian dishes are available. Quite good cellar. Interesting that the raw ingredients come from the whereabouts, so the experience is immersive. The service is good and the owner is kind and friendly. Quality/price ratio to me is excellent. Perfect in the spring and maybe summer I think the mill has a vast space outdoor and varous shaded patios.
We ate here a couple of days and the food was always exquisite. Being coeliac with nut and shellfish allergies can be quite tricky in Italy, so I always contact restaurants in advance: the chef in il molino in groppa reassured me and made amazing efforts in order to offer me all the local delicacies, modified to my needs. The wild boar and prune stew was particularly delicious, and some tasty little potato galettes with a fish topping, and some specifically modified gluten free mushroom dumplings. Great local wines and a real traditional family vibe in a historical watermill building, beautifully restored with a fresh, contemporary digning space. Some charming local musicians performed later in the evening and had all the locals dancing by the end of the night. In short, a really special place, bubbling with that family pride and vibrancy that makes Italy so tasty.
Juicy prawns with crispy veg and peach sauce to start, then some perfect gluten-free tagliatelle in a light spiced meat sauce with a bottle of the aromatic red wine of the region. Discovered this gem a couple of years ago and each time we are back in the North of Italy we keep coming back to the Molino del Groppo for the combinations of traditional recipes and fresh twists and most of all the care they take with special dietary requirements. Grazie mille e alla prossimo!
Really wonderful food and great for allergies and intolerances. I've eaten here a few times now and they are really accommodating of my special dietary requirements. Would highly recommend to everyone!
We stayed at Molino del Groppo for just one night in end of June. The place is very unique and beautiful, a whole old tiny village around the mill. The owners are very friendly and attentive. Our little apartment was very nice and clean, pleasantly cool on a hot day due to thick stone walls. The restaurant there serves only homemade things and everything was delicious. Try to get seated on the terrace as it looked very nice and romantic (we could not as there was an event going on). Overall very pleasant short stay.
