This refuge (a basic hotel and bar/restaurant for hikers and skiers) is in a superb location with breathtaking views to the coast and across the Majella mountains. It is at the start of the track to “Blockhaus”, one of the best in the Majella (easy, but you can go much further). The accommodation is basic (bunk beds and shared bathrooms) but very clean and well maintained, and we also ate both lunch and dinner in the restaurant and (especially given the remote location) we ate well. The staff are very friendly. Recommended for anyone exploring the Majella National Park.
On my trips to Abruzzo I have driven to the bottom of the ski fields many times, I had no idea that it is possible to drive up to the radio masts and enjoy a coffee in the Rifugio. The staff were welcoming and spoke perfect English. When I asked what times of the year they were open I was astounded to be told all year, every day. I look forward to my next trip where I will take the opportunity to enjoy a meal and more great coffee in such a spectacular setting.
