This is the place to go for a great breakfast. The staff was fantastic when it came to order exactly what we wanted.
Teens and Pommes are definitely above average. The place is from the beaten path, which is too bad, but from time to time, the menu guarantees the side trip.
What can I say about A&W? My wife and I love the Teen Burgers. A&W uses that specific type of seasoning on their patties and delicious bacon which creates that rich level of Umami (salty, savoury goodness) in their burgers. I'm also a big fan...of the mozza burger and the onion rings. When it comes to the onion rings, they can be great or simply mediocre. There doesn't seem to be an in between. When the rings are hot, fresh and properly seasoned, they are amazing! Every now and then, you get them and they are cold or under seasoned and they taste pretty average. I really like what they've done with the fries here as well. They've opted for thicker, chunkier hand cut fries as opposed to those skinny style fries that everyone else seems to have. I can't mention the fries without talking about the Poutine. A&W has eliminated the size selections for Poutine and now has one size. I love the fries, the gravy and the cheesy curds. So good! Back to the burgers; while I enjoy the smaller size burgers (Papa, Mama and the delicious Uncle burger) I find the amount of onion on the burgers can be overwhelming. I enjoy a thick slice of onion but my wife always removes it which seems to lessen the size of the burger by about 1/4. I highly recommend you try a buddy burger with cheese (a tasty mini burger with caramelized onions). It is a great value. The thing I don't like about A&W is the high prices. A teen burger by itself is at least $6! A combo is usually close to $10 after tax. I like when they have the two mama burgers for $5 deals or Teen burger specials but besides that, it can get very pricey very quickly. Considering that the food isn't necessarily healthy, there are definitely some better choices out there. I consider A&W to be like a high end Canadian version of McDonald's. expensive but also much tastier!
Always seems to be understaffed when busy. Service is faster going through the drive-thru than trying to order inside. The biggest pet peeve I have with this place is when they make their breakfast sandwiches they place them in a paper sleeve, then are placed...under the heat lamps on their side. When the heat lamp hits them the cheese melts and runs to the bottom of the sleeve and forms a lump on the sleeve at the bottom. Its great if you want more fiber and eat the sleeve with the sandwich at the same time because there is no cheese on the breakfast sandwich itself when you pull it out of the sleeve to eat: the cheese is at the bottom of the bag which you throw out unless you eat the bag! Lol If they placed the sandwiches flat this would not happen! On the positive side, A&W sausage and eggers have a much bigger sausage patty than Tim Horton's! Too bad A&W doesn't give you the option of getting your breakfast sandwich on a bagel! It would be better than the competition!
