However, the restaurant that we used to visit has been closed for many years, only open for a few months at a time. Despite the charming log buildings, the place is now deserted. There are no facilities for the public, such as bathrooms or picnic tables, but there is a parking lot with a pay phone. If you continue driving west for about 7-10 minutes, you will find a beautiful public rest area with all the amenities you need, including bathrooms, picnic tables, and a parking lot. Across the road in Brookside, there is a restaurant where you can enjoy delicious food, homemade cakes, ice cream, and even fuel and propane for your RV.
A few weeks ago, I drove to this restaurant that I used to visit with my grandparents in 2001. It had apparently been open for years, but I'm not sure when it closed. The food was not exceptional, but it was decent. It's unfortunate that the restaurant is no longer open, as it provided a nice alternative to the usual dining options.
The restaurant was closed when we arrived at the campsite, which was an unattractive gravel pit near a lake. There were a few permanent residents who seemed to be staying there. The bathrooms had old-fashioned shower stalls that were in terrible condition - rustic, cold, and with broken internal walls. The parking spot we were initially given was beneath a tree infested with wasps (we decided to change spots). This was the most expensive stop along our journey on the Alcan and also the worst one we encountered.
Since the opening of this resort we have been regularly. The food is prepared by a Red Seal and its food is sooo good! We recommend the scavengers, but everything on the menu we tried is good. The on site baking now has us...both addicted to Chef Brian's Nanaimo Bars incredible! Unfortunately, they now seem to have done with the senior menu and instead offer a reduced part for $4 from the regular price. The new prices are still fair. For low season, the restaurant is open only 3 days/week, Friday, Saturday Sunday. Not sure about opening hours.
For the past 20 YEARS or longer!I can remember back as a small child on family trips to "the big city," Prince George. We would stop in at Bednesti to get a bite to eat or to use the washroom, which has been at least 6-8 times a year for 20 years, it's been open maybe 10 times for no longer than 3 months maximum each time it was. But there are always new beautiful log building that are left boarded up to go to waste. So if your heading to or from somewhere past this place and we're expecting to get something to eat don't count on it to be open!Cause it is not. No bathroom or picnic tables for the public. But there is a parking lot, with a pay phone. If your heading West, just keep driving! About 7-10 minutes to the nice public Rest Area on the left. It has bathrooms, picnic tables and a parking lot to take a quick nap if you need. And right across the hi-way at Brookside you can get yummy take away food, homemade pie, ice cream, fuel and I think even propane for those old school RV's and liquor:)!
