I came and was warmly welcomed by the owner and boss who suggested that I try the Cachapa con queso y...champiñón. While waiting for the food, the owner told me Cachapas are from Venezuela: Elotes (corner cooked in a pancake, filled with cheese, meat and vegetables (La Casa de las Cachapas is vegetarian, so their meat is vegetable based. From the first bite I was in heaven. The corn, perfectly boiled in a savory batter, was gently folded around melted cheese and hot sautéed mushrooms; I topped the Cachapa with a little hot salsa verde. Surprisingly, as the filling of the portion was, I made a mental note to the golden stones, pan (which resembles a damped bungalow to me and a Frappe de Coco. Gracias, La Casa de Las Cachapas, involveré más!

La Casa de las Cachapas is a tiny, charming restaurant near Parc Hidalgo in Centro, recommended to me by a promotional flyer from a neighbor. I arrived and was greeted warmly by the owner and chef, who suggested I try the Cachapa con queso y champiñón. While I waited for the food, the owner told me Cachapas are from Venezuela: elote (corn) cooked in a pancake, stuffed with cheese, meat and vegetables (La Casa de las Cachapas is vegetarian so their meats are "vegetable-based"). Similar to a quesadilla or gordita, but with a flavor all its own. From the first bite, I was in heaven. The corn, cooked perfectly in a savory batter, was folded gently around melted cheese and warm sautéed mushrooms; I topped the Cachapa with a bit of hot salsa verde. Surprised at how filling the portion was, I made a mental note to return and try the golden tostones, pan (which resembles a steamed bun to me) and a Frappe de Coco. Gracias, La Casa de Las Cachapas, ¡volveré más!
