The chicken was really juicy and tender (beef was still good, but had some gristle). This is a sports bar, so not surprised when there are some on the TV screen screaming over a football match.
Las olas is a bar/restaurant that supplies more than it shows. The patacons are very special: crispy, delicious, appetite. Very well done. The spaghetti with shrimp is well made, although it improves some areas. The place is clean and the crew is attentive. We paid a fair price for a good meal. Good job!
We stayed daily for the Casados Pescado and Happy Hour cocktails we loved. But the last time we came, they overloaded us for the drinks of A LOT! And when we broke up, they told us that it was our fault not to tell the waitress that we came for a happy hour... I'm not sure how the waitress is not trained or able to read the sign is OUR error, or how that makes the drinks at a different price than on the menu, but I can tell you that it means we don't get anymore. Check your bill before you pay!!!
Honestly this was the worst meal I have had in the 6 years I have been coming to CR (no exaggeration). We had a group of 7 people and arrived at around 8:30pm. Our waitress was really friendly and chatty, taking our our order. It took about 40 minutes for our drinks to arrive and the food more than 90 minutes for the food to arrive! While waiting we kept asking where our food was and the manager unapologetically told us they were busy and this was normal. I had ordered the Mariscada (seafood platter) and my wife the fried whole fish. My Mariscada, when it eventually came, was inedible full of tough foul tasting shellfish and literally RAW lobster. My wife's whole fish was terrible, not crispy or tasty at all, we think it was probably reheated. The patacones we ordered were overcooked and soggy. The rest of the dishes people reported as ranging from mediocre to bad. The ceviche we ordered never arrived and we eventually cancelled it. How long does it take to put premade ceviche on a dish and add some chips or patacones. That should have come out with the drinks. At the end, they did agree to take Mariscada off the bill but only if they replaced it with the ceviche we never received. We will not go back which is a shame because we now have a house here in Jacó and are always on the lookout for gems. This is not one. Avoid this place!
I really enjoy this place, the food is good with great prices. Love her chap. The servers are super nice and even try to help me with my Spanish!
