Getting off at Iwaki-Tanagura Station, I strolled through the charming old town and castle ruins, and as I walked towards the lush greenery at Nakatoyosaki Station, I stumbled upon a striking traditional Japanese house with a rustic gate right next to the station. To my surprise, it turned out to be a bakery when I checked the map! I purchased "Pan de Mie," "Grape Shaped Bread," "Plain Campagne," and "Fig and Walnut Bread." Although they were slightly on the smaller side, they felt hefty when held. Upon tasting, I could faintly sense the acidity of the yeast, with a well-balanced flavor. It seemed like there were no unnecessary additives, allowing me to savor the carefully selected taste and aroma of the wheat. I will definitely visit again.
Located near Naka-Toyo Station in Tagura-cho, Fukushima Prefecture, this bakery was recommended to me as a delicious bakery in Tagura by the owner of "Koban Sushi." I finally had the chance to visit. The exterior is a traditional Japanese house, making it a bit difficult to find, but the small blue standing sign is the only marker. I purchased a "Plain Campagne" for 1200 yen. It had a hard texture on the outside and a moist and chewy interior. Although the scent of wheat and rye was subtle, the more you chewed it, the more flavorful and delicious it became. I also tried the "Walnut and Fig Bread" for 290 yen, which had a firm texture with chunks of walnuts and figs inside, making it tasty. The "Two Kinds of Olive and Rosemary" for 290 yen had a scent of rosemary and the saltiness and flavor of olives in focaccia dough, making it a good match with wine or beer. The "Potato and Black Pepper" for 290 yen had potatoes kneaded in and had a hard and chewy texture, although the black pepper flavor was not very strong. All of them were delicious and I was happy to see many hard-style bread options. The prices may be a bit on the higher side, but the taste is worth it. This bakery uses carefully selected ingredients such as natural yeast and domestic wheat to make additive-free bread. They are working hard to overcome the challenges of the pandemic, and I applaud their efforts.
This is a bakery specializing in natural yeast bread and baked goods. The quiet, light blue building has an open and pleasant atmosphere. They use natural ingredients, and the muffins are surprisingly moist and delicious. The refreshing scent of citrus peel enhanced my drive through the mountains. The banana cake is dense and chewy without being overly sweet, reminiscent of a homemade treat for children. The scones have a crumbly texture and are perfect with sweet tea or coffee. The whole grain bread has a hard crust and a dense, steamed bread-like interior with a tangy flavor that lingers. It would pair well with cheese or olive oil. Four out of five stars.
