However, we were in need of a quick stop for some Pokies on our way out of Canberra before heading home, so we took a chance. Once inside, we were pleasantly surprised by the excellent atmosphere of the place. It may not have been as flashy as some of the upscale Pokies clubs in Western Sydney, but it was charming in its own way. We spent a few hours enjoying the games and found the atmosphere to be quite inviting. The staff was friendly and the other patrons (mostly locals on a weekday afternoon during the Christmas holidays) were all pleasant. While I wouldn't go out of my way to visit again and didn't feel compelled to become a member as I usually do with clubs I enjoy, I found it to be a nice spot to relax and unwind for a few hours with my wife.
The meal was decent, with generous portions at a fair price, but lacking in quality and flavor. The meat seemed to be boiled.
We dined at this restaurant on Thursday evening before Easter and had a satisfying meal of chicken pieces, chips, salad, and two bowls of spaghetti bolognese. There were three of us dining. The spaghetti was from the light menu. We returned on Good Friday and enjoyed the fish and chips with salad, another delicious meal. On Sunday evening, we had dinner once again, and it was also very good. The pasta was well-cooked and tasty, and the butter chicken was also delicious. On Thursday evening, we watched AFL on the big screen and also saw NRL. The staff were friendly, and it is affordable to become a member of this club. We are looking forward to our next visit to Canberra.
The queanbeyan ligas club offers everything they want for a club meal: delicious pub classics, many options and generous portions. our meals fish and chips, and Thai beef salad were both very fresh, well seasoned and a generous size. closed in 5 minutes before the kitchens, the staff was most obliged and produced two large, freshly cooked meals for us. the bar staff was also very friendly and the drink selection is great. the dining room is standard ‘club’ style, but very comfortable and not too loud. the veranda looks at the river queanbeyan. beautiful. we come back!
If your looking for a meal to fill a giant hunger the schnitty here at the Queanbeyan Leagues club will fill the bill but you might have trouble digesting the pretty solid gravy accompanying it. In fairness when I alerted the waitress that I thought...the gravy had concrete in it and had set she was back in a flash with another bowl I didn't have the heart to tell her it was just as bad as the first she was just delivering what the kitchen had given her so you don't shoot the messenger. The chicken portion was huge sitting a top of a good serving of chips the salad was somewhat surprising having 3 quarters segments of tomato a rareiety these days but that was the highlight the rest was just a few leaves and no other traditional salad ingredients such as red onion, carrot and god forbid beetroot shredded or sliced anywhere to be found. Halfway through the meal I began to struggle as the Panko crumbs became heavy and with the lack of gravy dry. The wife on the other hand had chosen the Satay Skewers and she even had enough satay sauce to mix in with the rice and declared her meal very good. 50 fity isn't bad I guess. choose carefully if your ordering the schnitty maybe elect for the Dianne or other sauce.
