Hosaka-Ya - Quebec City

After living in Tokyo for 7 months, Hosaka Ya restaurant is the closest thing to sushi at Tokyo sushi bars. Thank you for existing, without your restaurant, Quebec would not be the same!!!

Beyond the excellent food, the overall experience is of superb authenticity; the service (hirashaimase!), the decor, and of course, the items from the Akiko boutique.

Québec City has over 2500 restaurants and a very small number of sushi places call themselves Japanese but most if not all of them are not. Recently, the an authentic Japanese ramen place owned and operated by Japanese opened recently to great success. We wanted to go there by they were closed for vacations. So searched another place and ran into this small place. The place is small and seats 20 max approximately; three people work in it one of them the Japanese waitress. The menu is extensive and the specials are very Japanese yet the taste and execution quite a bit off and took too long (sushi.) However, this is still a better option than most. Rarely will anyone come to Québec City for a Japanese restaurant but if you must. this might be the safest after the ramen place.

Clean neat and delicious would fairly describe this place!!!I went for the famous combo (Bento Box)Just yummyIt comes with a choice of soup or salad. I obviously had the pictured miso soup:)And they serve you both a tea and an ice-cream at the end of your course meal!NOW something original about this place, is that they don't let you choose your ice cream flavor. yes I know some of you now are giving me that face, thinking that it is a subtle way to get rid of their least popular flavor! WRONGThe flavors were as original and healthy tasting Ginger and beans flavors! Regarding my star rating: 3 is because the portions aren't really generous for what they cost (15$ for that box).I ordered a tiger eye maki portion, though the taste was fine, it was a tiny circle in the middle filled with fish (tiniest I've ever seen)

Everything was perfect, there's not much places so maybe reservation is a good idea if not for take out.
