The food at both restaurants was hit/miss I wish the avocado toast had avocado instead of guac on it, but the vegan bowls were delicious. Cons: I could not find a safe in my room. I wish the room included a mini fridge for drinks. I wish there was a coffee maker in the rooms OR coffee available in the lobby guests can ask for a small drip coffee or tea from the fancy attached coffee shop, which is cute, but for me I just want to be able to make my own. The $45 amenities fee seems really high for the size of the pool and I don 't know what other amenities that covers especially considering the price you already pay for the room. The spa is separate and you have to book a spa treatment to use that. Maybe take one of their morning yoga classes to make it worth it. Pros: 2 blocks from the beach. Street parking was easy, but I am not sure this is always true. Bed was comfortable, everything was very clean, shower is very nice The welcome drink was a nice touch
I had a great girls wknd here. There are pros and cons to the hotel. My review is based off me being from the NYC area, wanting to get away with a few friends for a summer wknd and not travel far. I would be much more disappointed if I was traveling far for this hotel. Cons: the rooms are TINY! No closets. They offer pull out drawers under the bed and peg hooks on a wall. No room to walk or put a suitcase. You need good weather if you are staying here because it would suck to be stuck in the room. Room amenities are not existent. Fridge you have to request and is the size of a few cans of soda. No coffee maker, so they let you get hot coffee downstairs for free. Shower really isn’t easy to work, has terrible pressure and hot water is on and off. View isn’t great, you see the subway and the water in the distance. Beach is a few blocks away. Cabana is a joke, it’s a couch under a pergola. No special offerings and the price of cabanas in cooler locales. But it at least you get a seat! FYI There is a cabana minimum spend they don’t tell you about. Beach feels far away and is definitely not a draw. Boardwalk isn’t as fun as some other boardwalks in the area. Pros: pool is a nice size. Good luck getting a chair though! Pool service is great, menus are great. Lots of drink and food offerings and expensive but not crazy prices. Wait staff is wonderful. Restaurant also has great food staff and ambience. But the menu feels a bit repetitive if your eating in the hotel for your meals. And there aren’t a lot of great restaurant options in the area. DJ on the summer wknd at the pool was great! Totally set the vibe. Pool has a shelf to lounge, was very relaxing. Pool is in full sun during the day so it’s great for a summer day.
The Rockaway Hotel is a fun, cool vibe that brings some unpretentious bougie glam to the area. The staff was really kind, amenable and obliging and had all sorts of special tricks up their sleeve for a special birthday stay. The lobby and pool area is the better choice for a solid hang with friends or family than the rooftop which was Very windy on the non reservation ocean side, awkward seating with strangers and unclear table service. The reservation side had insanely loud live music where talking was impossible but great views of the city. We ate at the ground level restaurant which has a nice menu but a tad under staffed. Basically its fun and love the beachy upscale casual vibe with the bikes and morning fitness class, gratis coffee from the cafe and the beach ameneties, cute gift shops and great art but know you're paying more for that vibe than the room! TRH offered free parking in the nearby lot which is a bonus in that area but next time I'll take the ferry because I did like it enough to go back.
Food was good. Limited menu, but nevertheless good. Had breakfast at the table and lunch poolside. Pool area small. Ground level. Walls with apertures that are closed up by metal, almost like being fenced in . The ivy did not grow enough to camouflage the fencing and hide the non view from across the street...probabley needed to be planted much earlier. Can be a bit cramped given the amount of guests in the hotel. Loses the boutique feel of the hotel. The pool is not a place for kids. It 's too crowded. Limited kids menu. This is more a place for adults.Parking: 30$ to park with valet.
The atmosphere at this restaurant is pleasant and the staff is friendly. Although my filet was slightly overcooked, it was still flavorful. My dining companion raved about the brick chicken, saying it was fantastic. Overall, we had a very enjoyable dining experience.
