Yesterday we visited Shawarma Bros for the first time in UP Town Center. I like how spacious it is and the youthful vibe of their interiors. Their wall is decorated with printed Instagram posts of their customers featuring the place and their food. So it's a self service type where you have to order in their counter hence it's pay as you order and they will be serving the food once ready. They also have their sauces and cutlery beside the counter. I'm not really a fan of using plastic so I wish they just provided each table with sauces instead, so that they won't have to use plastic caps for the sauce. Save mother earth! We ordered Beef Shawarma Rice Plate, Jumbo Beef Shawarma Wrap, Pita and Hummus, and their BroYo Shake. Their beef shawarma plate was good. I love their yellow rice although it didn't taste so different than plain rice. They have an ample portion of beef and tomatoes on the plate. I think it's a bit overpriced for its serving size though. I didn't like their sauces that much. We had to go back to the refilling station three times because their mayo wasn't tasty and it was too watery. I'm not actually sure if it's mayo or yogurt because of its consistency. Haha. Their cheese and hot sauce were okay, nothing special but tastes good when poured over the beef. Their pita bread is crunchy, but you have to eat it immediately as it's not that yummy when cold. What I liked among the food we ordered is the BroYo shake! It's thick and tasty! Not too icy, not too watery. You can really taste the yogurt. And it only costs 80pesos! I wanted to try their lamb plate sadly it's not available.
The Chicken Shawarma was very filling and tasty, expecially when the sauces were added. I liked the spicy sauce a lot because it balanced the flavor of the shawarma. It's a must for all shawarma lovers!
I came here during their off-peak, around 3:30 in the afternoon. There was only one customer before me, and another one who arrived when I was nearly done. Service was quick then. The food tasted good too, but perhaps they can lower the price a bit (maybe 155 pesos for a Beef Shawarma Rice plate? . At the counter, I initially said Beef Shawarma Rice Solo but the guy still asked if I want an upsized drink. I went with the regular size anyway. I like that they have a TV screen and it was tuned in to the UAAP cheer dance competition.
Hits all the right spots if you're looking for a casual, enjoyable, reasonably-priced persian/mediterranian food experience. Flavors of their meats and everything else taste familiar to what you may have been accustomed to, but done well in a clean and cozy atmosphere. They don't hold back on the portions as well. If anything, I'm a bit bummed that there isn't any Ox Brain on the menu. Maybe in the near future ? . Yes, there are a couple of reliable places around katipunan with the same offerings, but you'll probably want to keep Shawarma Bros as one of your constants.
