The restaurant itself is beautiful and the owner who serves the tables is of pure kindness. They will be addressed in local dialect and even local Germans need to listen carefully... The original kitchen that you can be so happy to get a look at the will make you understand that everything is cooked as it has always been cooked here. We enjoyed the food and friendly service so much and would definitely visit again!
For a day long (xc-skiing) from nearby Flachau, we found this place directly before we reach the Turnaround point approx. 10km on the way. We expected rustic charm and found it: filled marmots guard the door, wooden beams over head, flag stone floors, authentic tile oven in the corner, and a friendly dog wander freely around the premises. What we did not expect was a wonderful and really sneaked meal. Do freshly from the nearby pond and scavenger done better than your grandma did it. Call the day to book the speciality menu, the venison and other traditional German Austrian fare. This inn might not be worth a pilgrimage to the mountains on your own, but if you are skiing, hiking or cycling in the area, DIEs is the place to stop well above the usual mountain hut standard for the tested.
Out for a day of langlaufen (xc-skiing) from nearby Flachau, we found this place right before we got to the turnaround point about 10km up the trail. We expected rustic charm and found it: stuffed marmots guarding the door, wooden beams overhead, flagstone floors, authentic kachelofen in the corner, and a friendly dog wandering freely around the premises. What we didn't expect was a delightful and truly homecooked meal. Trout fresh from the nearby pond and schnitzel done better than your grandma made it. Call ahead the day before to book the specialties menu which included venison and other traditional German / Austrian fare. This gasthaus might not be worth a pilgrimage to the mountains all on its own, but if you're skiing, hiking or cycling in the area, THIS is the place to stop for provender well above the usual mountain hut standard.
