Feedback gevenI was not expecting much when going in. The place does not look good outside. Inside is a little better. There are not many options but food is nice and the desert "pão de ló" is amazing. A good option but not a super option
Located near the hotel eurostars rio douro. A good alternative to the hotels restaurante. Unfortunately the are trying to sell the place.
We found this place via Tripadvisor. It is a "Churrasceria" (barbecue restaurant) along the N222. No barbecue going on there when we visited the place in Decembe though, just very fine food and dito wine for a very reasonable price! We were the only non-local guests, so that is always a good indication. We enjoyed the Prato do Dia (dish of the day) which was slices of leg of porc in its own jus (from the oven) accompanied by rice, feijoada (black beans in a sauce with pieces of sausage and bacon) and crisps. Wonderful! Would definately go back there when in this area.
How lucky to have found this place.'O Cantinho' may not be a trendy, stylish place, but once you have experienced its magic, you'll go back...Our experience after many stays in (whole) Portugal has learnt us to look for typical places where you meet the locals.Resto or taverne, or café, as long as it is clean and feels comfortable. And what's on the plate is much more important than decoration and view. Sofia and Vitor -young parents and proud owners- instantly make you feel at home and serve fab. Portuguese food. Both quality AND quantity is imported to them, cause the portions are huge!Fish or meat, and depending of what's in the house, it's all prepared with care and one feels that here they know how food should be prepared, and served...Fried, cooked or grilled, perfection is ever so close, even in simple dishes, and so is the presentation. And the price? Unbelievable! In all honesty, we would pay much more than double this price in Belgium and the chance of having such a friendly 'from the heart' service...none existant. What could be more enjoyable? We went 4 nights in a row and payed between €32.10 and €36.20 for 3 adults!?'Entradas'**, main dish and drinks. Desserts...on occasion...if we found space...**In Portugal it is a tradition to put some dishes on the table, like for starters. These 'Entradas' could be olives, bread and butter, ham, cheese or sometimes all of it...If you don't want any of these, just ignore or give it back and it will not be on your bill. But when like in 'O Cantinho' it only costs ab. €4 for 3p, why not enjoy a bit of starters?Drinks are cheap and having a beer for only €0.90 and coffee for €0.60 add's up to the dream, while it is quite amazing to have an exellent dish of fish or meat for a price lower th. €8.And we also met some wonderful local people. They all were proud to welcome us as if it was there own place. It felt so good; it felt like home! This experience had to be shared and in fact, it is a shame that this fantastic place with adorable owners and guests had no feedback on Tripadvisor yet.We have tried 1-3* restaurants in the past, and it never gave the satisfaction that we had now...
We discovered this restaurant through TripAdvisor and went there for lunch. We had barbecue chicken with rice, fries and salad and all of it was wonderful. The portions were big for 2. For all that, 2 cokes, a bottle of water and 2 expresso we paid about 15€. Would return in a heartbeat!
